Seal Beach, California
Seal Beach is Orange County's northernmost beach town — a nostalgic Main Street, a classic wooden pier, and a famously relaxed pace that feels a world away from the freeways.
History
Incorporated in 1915, Seal Beach was an early seaside resort whose 'Joy Zone' amusement pier drew crowds in the 1910s and 20s. In 1962 it welcomed Leisure World, one of the nation's first planned retirement communities, and the city has guarded its small-town beach character ever since.
Things to do
Walk one of California's longest wooden piers, browse Main Street's shops and cafes, watch for dolphins from the sand, and explore the Seal Beach National Wildlife Refuge on a monthly tour.
