History

Aliso Viejo derives its name from Spanish for "old alder" or "old sycamore", referring to the trees that grow along Aliso Creek. In 2001, Aliso Viejo became Orange County's 34th city. It was originally part of a 22,000 acre land grant in 1842 and developed into a vast planned community.
